The Science Behind Healing With Sound

Don’t Call It ‘Healing’

https://medium.com/@iamninunina/the-problem-with-misusing-the-term-healing-c12e5d83a5cb   Don’t Call It ‘Healing’ Leila Antakly Dec 22, 2019 · 8 min read Photo by Tobias Wenning Konstantin is a gong master based in Ibiza who goes by the artistic name Kosma Solarius. He was born in 1972 in the Bavarian Forest, and is a mix of German and Greek roots. I interview this legend on Ninu Nina, and we discuss in great detail his background, how he grew up with music and later on as a teen ager how he became more and more interested in how to create and produce sound. We discuss his inspirations and life in Ibiza and the turning point in his life in the late 80’s when he booked the Star Sounds Orchestra, a legendary psychedelic trance live act, where he discovered and heard a set of symphonic planet gongs on a stage for the first time. Through research he found out that these instruments had a special way of being tuned to the orbital frequency of the planets of our solar system. From that point on he would always produce music tuned to planet frequencies. We interview Konstantin again but this time we get a little deeper with the magic of gongs. Science & the Magic of the Gongs Konstantin: I was very lucky to meet Jens ( Star Sounds Orchestra), because he is the father of planet gongs. He had the initial idea to tune symphonic gongs to planetary sounds, which they had experimented with already. Steve was the first musician ever to compose a planetary tuned music track, working together with the Swiss mathematician Hans Cousto, who discovered the so called cosmic-octave calculations, in which the time a planet needs to travel around the sun gets translated into a sound frequency. Turns out, that each planet has a very unique tuning and this was a very big discovery, that these tunings are the soul of music. If you take for example a guitar, and tune one string slightly up and down, but within the same key, you will realize, that each new tuning has a different character to it. So, the same key, but just slight changes of tuning seem to make a big difference. This is how the idea was born to use these gongs for gong meditations. In fact, these gongs were the first instruments ever to be tuned to natural frequencies and four of my gongs are from this very first series of planet gongs. I like to...

Welcome 2020!!!

As we begin a new decade it is time to begin a fresh direction. All too often the vision we have seems unattainable, far from our current reality. It can seem like an enormous task but a small shift in our trajectory can lead to a big difference in destination. This year, 2020=2+0+2+0 vibrates to the energy of the number 4, reminding us to send down our roots and anchor ourselves in our wisdom and in the land. Four is the builder, the organiser, and the law maker, and provides an opportunity for a new year in which we can build new systems for the future. Its time to transform old worn-out systems and situations and create new foundations for the new circumstances in which we find ourselves and from which a new future can unfold. This year learn to live in the right relationship with yourself, each other and the Earth. This will create a solid foundation for whatever happens next.   2019 saw the beginnings of a number of very exciting projects! I had the absolute eye-opening pleasure of working in Bristol Prison at the end of this year. An incredibly humbling day which went so well that I will be returning this month. An absolute honour to be part of my friends essential project; RiseUP   Using my voice more and singing with some utterly beautiful women has given me much healing and strength. Our very ad-hoc, non public and non performing group has ended up making 2 public appearances and 2020 will see us gathering for more vocal therapy to soothe our souls and bond our bones. Deepest thanks to my Singing Sistren.   I'm looking forward to starting my monthly sound bath sessions at Sense Touchbase Pears in Selly Oak this month! This may suit people that live closer to Touchbase than Birmingham Buddhist Centre and if you don't manage to get in quick enough with the Buddhist Centre sessions its a great overflow session! Echoes of Equinox

It's been a while since I have written - apologies for the space and quietness! Welcome September! The light is stunning and I can see a definite change in the season. A time of abundance and harvest. Bright berries shine in the hedgerows, crab apples, conkers and hazelnuts start to fall from the trees and apples ripen in the orchards. The reason we have a long school summer holiday was originally to give children time off school to work 6-8 weeks in the fields. September would have seen our ancestors and their children busy working to get in the rest of the harvest, root crops, drying herbs making cider and preserving seeds for next year. This is a great time to take stock in order to prepare for winter and bring your life back into balance. What do you need to do more and what do you need to do less of? I've had a lovely few months dotting about the place giving and receiving good vibrations! Big thanks to Yoga Haven for such a wonderful afternoon. Boy was it hot in there but as soon as the amazing Yin yoga began I managed to get to grips with it heat and truly relax. What an amazing warm up/cool down before the sound bath. Lovely group of people, great space and I look forward to returning!     Up next...
